Materials & Jewelry Care

What Is Gold Filled?

Gold filled is the next best thing next to solid gold but without the price. It is a solid layer of gold bonded to a base material (jewelers brass) with heat and pressure. In order to qualify as gold filled the US industry standard legally requires 5% pure gold by weight. It will have up to 100 times more gold than gold plated. Below is a chart you can see for reference.

Taking care of your pieces is important so you get the most out of them and they last for years. The more care the longer they last :) Here are some ways to take care and clean your jewelry!

JEWELRY CARE

Gold Filled:

-Take jewelry off before bed and store in its bag or box.

-Even though our jewelry is waterproof please avoid chlorine and salt water pools including the ocean. Just remove before entering and you will be good to go. With time chlorine and salt water will alter the color of your pieces. I've tested this in my low chlorinated pool and trust me don't do it lol. My pieces changed color after only a couple swims. Just take off before jumping in. If you place them back on make sure to dry off first.

-You can workout in your items BUT if you know you are going to get the best workout of your life and bring some intense heat- do not wear it. Besides your jewelry will distract you from your workout because you look so good in it.

-When applying lotion, cologne, perfume, hand sanitizer, hair spray, makeup etc- let it dry down! Do not apply this on top of your beautiful pieces, they will be crying on the inside you just cant hear them.

-I know we all love a good cleaning session or pretend to at least, but all of those amazing cleaning products in our cabinets is a major no no. All chemicals should be avoided when wearing jewelry.

-Wipe your pieces down with a soft cloth after each use. We all have natural oils on our skin and can also build up dirt around our pieces. If you want to wash your pieces weekly to keep them looking great follow the next steps:

1. Use mild soap and soak pieces for 5 min

2. Wipe down pieces but if brushing them clean, ONLY use a soft bristled tooth brush or prepare for scratches if you dont.

3. Pat with a soft cloth and you can polish with a jewelry polishing cloth.

Sterling Silver:

Same as above for gold filled. The more you take care of your pieces the longer they will last! If you find that your pieces look dull and the mild soap and warm water isnt cutting it follow the below to remove any tarnish:

1. Combine warm water & baking soda to form a paste.

2. Use a small amount of the paste and brush with a SOFT bristle toothbrush

3. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.

Always keep your jewelry protected in its box and pouch so that the air will not oxidize your pieces or tarnish them.
